How easy it to convert an existing website into using a CMS like joomla ?
Should you decide to use one when starting itself or can you make the decision later ?

I switched to wordpress after coding my site myself (however, it's now hosted via blogger). You can
easily recreate the individual posts or pages that you have. The problem is, there doesn't seem to be
an easy way to avoid losing your Google indexing. The page hierarchy will be different and therefore
you lose all links to your pages (they break).
I've never used joomla, but I assume you will run into the same problem...
Anyone else have similar experiences ?
My experience with any CMS is a bad one, hence why I hand-code all of my websites. To be honest, using a CMS is the lazyman method.
Indeed it is. You'll get constant security updates, and feature updates for free.using a CMS is the lazyman method
I wouldn't consider it unless it's a damn flexible CMS though. Most CMS's arent (not even joomla, IMHO, of course).

In my experience, joomla is easy to get into, but hard to get out of. It's a real pain to convert from a joomla website, to anything else. To be honest if I was going to recommend any CMS it would be wordpress.
