Question Small and neat alternative to Rhythmbox for online radio.

    Hi
I'm using Ubuntu Karmic Koala with Gnome desktop.
I listen to online radio with Rhythmbox, I have all the necessary URLs loaded in.
Now Rhythmbox is a great program but it seems like overkill just to listen to online radio.
Is anyone using an alternative for this purpose, something small and neat?

    EDIT
    RadioTray is what I needed.
Latest version deb is available from the website here:- http://radiotray.sourceforge.net/

Streamtuner from this repo works great :
    https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/streamtuner

One in official repos has problems with shoutcast .

    OK, thanks.
I've used Streamtuner in the past.
It's way over the top for my needs now.

I use Exaile, which does online radio just fine, but that's really more of a full-fledged music player / Rhythmbox alternative. I don't know of any small, single-purpose (or more focused) online radio apps.

Yes, I can see the screenshots on the Exaile website.
Perhaps these are the only choices we have for streaming radio with Ubuntu.
    Rhythmbox, Amorok, Streamtuner and Exaile.

VLC supports shoutcast and it has firefox plug-in for all kinds of streaming content and you can add url to playlist . So it can play just about anything you ask it to including radio . Go to pref. , show all , playlist , service discovery and check shoutcast . Restart and open playlist and you will be able to choose shoutcast !
    Enjoy !

    Hi
    Thanks for your reply.
My VLC is now set up as you suggested. It is listed as IceCAST output. There are thousands of stations.
It's interesting, but it's only doing a similar job to Streamtuner, and that's not what this thread is about.

I know that I can play individual URLs with VLC and I could probably make a directory of URLs to open with VLC too.

For me, this is no improvement on Rhythmbox.

Yes, but it's just another media player that happens to play URL streams.
