minimal install: openbox, xfe, not mounting drives?

Ok, I have another (what may prove to be a) dumb question:

I'm running a minimal 9.10 install, on my Acer Aspire One 110L, with openbox and xfe (amongst a few other things) built on it. When I plug in a USB drive (card reader or HDD), it's not mounting. Is the file manager (xfe; updated to the latest via sourceforge) supposed to be handling this? or is there a separate package I need to install first?

    TIA

Is your file manager thunar? If so it should show up in Thunar on the side panel.
    It's okay, I'm a limo driver

Actually I was using xfe, but I couldn't find a lightweight volume manager for it (quickly), so I just installed thunar and thunar-volman. Fixed it right up, it did.

    Thx.
