question about nv driver

I have just installed Karmic 32bits, I have a Nvidia 8400M Geforce video card, but I dont want to use the privative Nvidia drivers, I would like to continue using the default nv drivers that come with the clean install of ubuntu.

My problem is that it seems a little misconfigured in the color depth, due that I can see some colors that are not very good (specially in xsplash and when watching movies), so, is there a way to change the color depth with this driver?

there is a way - but you will have to manually edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf
