There is now a new package that doesn't have the weird rt73 dependency:
http://launchpadlibrarian.net/384580...karmic_all.deb
Install and then run the following line to switch off:
sudo modprobe asus_nvidia
OK so I have turned off my Nvidia card. But I still can't control the backlight - which seames like it is allways turned up to the max
Anyone had any luck with controling the backlight?
I have a xps1340 with the 9500m.
Yesterday I was trying to modify the code to turn off the discrete card on my computer but I couldn't. I managed to turn off the integrated card though
I think tonight I will try to work on it a little bit more.
Did you try running the code for asus on your machine?
Hi, I have a few questions regarding the Asus UL80V, is it possible to use the nvidia card internally with the display?
I tried installing the latest nvidia driver on my asus ul80v but only get a black screen after rebooting. The only driver that somewhat works is the intel driver (even though it also has lots of bugs it seems
Does anyone have this work? and if how?
The topic Switch on/off nvidia card is a bit confusing here :/
now i have installed the deb pkg, so what do i have to do to turn on the graphic card?
modprobe nvidia_g210m_acpi
turned it off.
modprobe -r nvidia_g210m_acpi ??
didnt seam to do anything. do i have to restart my computer to get it started again?
and does anyone have a working driver?

after suspend the driver delivered here, seems to not turn off the Nvidia card. Take a look at powertop to notice that. It is necessary to run rmmod nvidia_g210m_acpi and then reload the driver with modprobe to properly turn off the card. Never tried Hibernation anyway..
I installed the package in 3rd page.
Any solutions?
To the owners of Asus UL30/50/80vt machines: could you please clarify whether you are able to use the nvidia card on your laptop **at all** under Linux? Can it always be enabled/disabled in the BIOS, eg?
Is this just an issue of "hot-switching" between Intel<-> Nvidia graphics while the machine is running or are you simply stuck with only using the Intel card under Linux?
Thank you for any information
~lara
The Nvidia Card can't be disabled from the bios and the Nvidia closed-source blob doesn't support it.
We are all stuck with the Intel card alone, with the nvdia turned off thanks to the driver provided in this thread.
The upcoming Ubuntu will bring some support thanks to the Nouveau driver, nothing stellar anyway, just 2D.
its strange, i think, but thus modu does not work with 2.6.33 kernell, gentoo, UL30
