    Re: Xorg help

    These were the kind of symptoms I'd have when I would have composite enabled years ago. So I tried adding
    Code:
    Option         "AIGLX" "false"
    and
    Code:
    Section "Extensions"
            Option "Composite" "disable"
    EndSection
    but no luck. I just don't understand why KDM would work fine for xorg, but then KDE and XFCE would not.

    Re: Resolution problems

    fixed
    Code:
    [config/dbus] couldn't take over org.x.config: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.AccessDenied (Connection ":1.20" is not allowed to own the service "org.x.config.display0" due to security policies in the configuration file)
    by creating the file
    Code:
    /etc/dbus-1/system.d/xorg-server.conf
    which was missing, and having in it
    Code:
    <!DOCTYPE busconfig PUBLIC
     "-//freedesktop//DTD D-BUS Bus Configuration 1.0//EN"
     "http://www.freedesktop.org/standards/dbus/1.0/busconfig.dtd">
    <busconfig>
            <policy context="default">
                    <allow own="org.x.config.display0"/>
                    <allow send_destination="org.x.config.display0"/>
                    <allow send_interface="org.x.config.display0"/>
            </policy>
    </busconfig>
    (thanks to http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=280443#c14)

    so now I have to fix
    Code:
    [config/dbus] couldn't register object path

    Re: Resolution problems

    well, startxfce4 works fine. startkde gives me
    Code:
    $DISPLAY is not set or cannot connect to the X server
    and still neither kdm or xdm works

    .xsession-errors gives me
    Code:
    /etc/kde4/kdm/Xsession: line 46: /etc/X11/Xsession: No such file or directory

    Re: Resolution problems

    FIXED everything by doing
    Code:
    apt-get -o DPkg::Options::="--force-confmiss" --reinstall install x11-common
    (thanks to http://ircarchive.info/debian/2007/4/8/110.html)

    So, lesson learned: when you delete /etc/X11, and reinstall xorg, the config files do not reinstall with it.
