How these forums are laid out

It seems that there are a lot of "tutorials" on how to configure past versions of Ubuntu. I think that there should be main forums of certain releases, (like 9.10 Forums, 9.04 etc...), and then all of the sub-forums for those certain releases. For someone like me who is learning, I have re-installed Ubuntu quite a few times because I have screwed up my system, because they either have been fixed or aren't applicable. Am I missing something here? If not, I think that we should be having main distribution forums. I have been using Ubuntu since version 6, sporadically, and all of my troubleshooting is here at ubuntuforums.

Sorry, I'm just tired of wasting time searching for an answer that should be fairly simple. An organized way of handling releases makes sense.

I'm not sure if dividing the forums according to release numbers would be an easy task or be wise, and could possibly lead to more confusion. People sometimes post their questions in the wrong place already.....

We used to do what is being suggested. The problem was that we then had to rearrange the forums every six months and that was not pretty.

Threads are dated. I politely suggest looking at the date on posts before using them, and perhaps consider first asking a question in the thread if you aren't sure it is appropriate for the release you are using.

Most of the time though the procedures are the same, but not always.

Look at the links in my sig or search the forums through Google. Really, sometimes you will find the answer faster using Google.
If at first you don't succeed - just buy the company and tell them to make the one you want.

    This. +1

I think I only post questions here when I cannot find the answers myself.
