I have to admit that i was a long time pc user and with pc i mean i used Windows as my main operating system.
Originally i am a Commodore guy who loved his C64 but even more his Amiga.
Since Commodore went out of business i switched to the pc like most people did and so i went on and seen, at that time, the improvments over time.
DOS was fun, but i went to DR-Dos which were made imcompatible with greetings from Redmond.
Then Windows from 3.1 through Vista.
Yes, every version looked nicer and it looked like much better anytime, but thats because if you never see anything else, everything looks like an improvement.
Do you know how painful it is to update Windows? Countless hours of downloads and seeing error messages that tell you that an update could not be applied.
This year, i gave Ubuntu a try and it went smootly. Altough i did have a problem upgrading from 9.04 to 9.10 (command blinking). But after another fresh install it was all good.
Now i know other people complain a lot that this does not work and that, but if i remember correctly, not everything works on Windows either.
To me, Ubuntu opend a new door which allowes me to explore a whole different world. In which you can use what ever software you like and you don't need to pay for it. A community driven project that is going on and people who help each other.
Windows 7 might be another leap in the Windows world, but i resisted to this one. I am not paying again a high pricetag for an upgrade.
Not everything is perfect in Ubuntuland, but its much worse in Windowsland.
I had once a software with the name Acdsee which is so buggy and always crashed. Did they fixed the issue? Never. Here things get fixed over time or quickly if its an important issue.
Just the money you save on Anti-Virus Protection is already gold worth.
There are some thing i don't like on Linux, but thats actually wrong. I wasn't able to connect my pc to my xbox and having everything streamed.
But i have to explore more the linux world and the things it offers.
One thing for me is, that i am free and not bound to Windows anymore. I banned Windows from my harddrive and will never ever use it again.
Even gaming is possible without it.
I noticed that people sometimes complain about linux that their hardware does not work. Well, no company in Windowsland cares about if some features don't work with an windows upgrade either. My brother laser printer which had a dublex feature under Xp lost this feature under Vista. Haha...
Somehow i feel sorry for anyone who has to use Windows, especially if there are so many alternatives out there.
I am glad i did the change to a better operation system. I have no regrets to have switched.
