    Ibm t40

    Hey guys,

i'm currently running Hardy on an Old T40.
I had a lot of trouble when I installed any of the newer distributions though they all worked fine off the live CD most of them wouldn't even boot after installing.

My question is whether or not it is safe to now let my system upgrade to Lucid?

    Thanks,
    Nir

That sounds rather weird, but it's quite likely that the problems will follow the software version. Can you make a backup before trying? Try looking at http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Category:T40 for more info, but every single Thinkpad i've installed Linux on has worked flawless.
What? I'm not allowed to say fsck? Then how is i supposed to help people fix their filesystems?

Thanks, unfortunately I don't have any means of backing up my system right now. I am planning on getting a portable HD though.
Generally Thinkpads are amazing. but I guess such old laptops just don't receive the support required any more.
Is there any other way to run a test?
