HP D1560 Error Message!

I've been frequently getting a strange error message from my printer: 'Too many failed attempts', even when it's the first time that I've tried to print a document!

It has happened with both my desktop and my laptop (both using Jaunty with two different HP printers). Does anybody know how to stop this?

This is a major problem that has been bugging Ubuntu for many years now and somehow has never been properly adressed. The web is full of solutions that simply don't work or work only for a few people. It is an acknowledged problem, apparently in GTK (affecting programs like evince).

There are endless discussions about this but little in the way of solutions. Try reading through the following (try page 2, #19, comment):

I have had no luck and this is turning into a real dealbreaker. Try anyway- some others have had some success.
