I'm trying to install some handwriting recognition software on my Karmic Koala laptop with a Wacom Bamboo Fun tablet.

Here the description of the software I'm trying to install:
Uptools3 is the latest version --- dated Februari 1997 --- of a set of programs for viewing, editing, and transforming UNIPEN files. UNIPEN is the de facto standard for on-line handwriting data.
Uptools3 is available at http://hwr.nici.kun.nl/unipen/.

Being so old it also requires installing other legacy software - it expects Tcl 7.6 and Tk 4.2. How should I approach this?

PS: To achieve my handwriting recognition goal, I had previously tried to use CellWriter http://risujin.org/cellwriter/, but I find it annoying to draw each letter in a cell. I feel that writing on a tablet should be continuous, just as on paper.
