xflux: because a bright monitor at night is no fun

    http://www.stereopsis.com/flux/

Just found out about/started using this. While you can tell it makes everything much more yellow, it is a lot easier on the eyes at night. I don't know if I'll keep it though because my room is always about the same light anyways. I guess it could help with my monitor not keeping me awake.

Just thought I'd mention that Compiz does have a brightness modifier, it's just not enabled by default. I set mine to Ctrl-Alt-Button5 to dim and Button4 to brighten, and it feels similar to xFlux, but less yellow.

well xflux isn't for bright monitors, but its a plus to turn it down at night, this is to change the color on your moniter as nightfall reaches, it goes to a natural color so you can sleep better at night (red tint) i have been using it for the last few days, and my sleep has improved, heres instructions on how to install it install source/link

a couple good tips on this page, but I think F.lux sounds better; so I'll try it, too. Also, thx for the instructions; they are working. You can make it warmer by appending -k [something between 2000 and 3400, 3400 being default]

I just do (make sure offending window is in focus) Super+N to reverse white windows/pages to black. Much easier on the eyes at night.

I started using redshift and I think it does the same thing.

Also, to understand why these programs do this you could read this article

    found it on OMG!ubuntu!.
