NVidia GEForce4 MX-440 AGP with 8x and monitor not detected.

Hi, it's embarassing that I've already searched in Google and this forum but I can't find anything that matches my specs. I'm still tweaking with Linux and found out that I will face this problem (like in Windows due to outdated card).

Anyway, I've noticed that ubuntu can't detect my monitor, AOC 17" and nVidia GEFORCE4 MX-440 AGP with 8x. I tried to check its specs as my manual was already eroded from a storm so I don't know its refresh rates anymore. In addition, in my xorg.conf there is no "Section 'Monitor'" listed so I don't know if I should add the whole section just like what other threads instructed to do so or not. And if I did, when I reboot the system it goes "System working in low-graphics mode" or something similar to that.

I have my graphics card CD-ROM but I can't install it to the system so that it could at least improve anything.

    Hope someone will help me.
Thank you so much for the patience.

Okay I made a progress after downloading and installing EnvyNG but I'm still not yet satisfied just for 1074x768 with 0khz refresh rate. I need to put it at least 1280x1024 resolution.

I hope someone will help me...

    Thanks in advance!

I've finally made it! BUT! Whenever I boot my PC it always says Ubuntu is running in low-graphics mode. How could I remove that? Here's my X.0.log

Re: NVidia GEForce4 MX-440 AGP with 8x and monitor not detected.

    Hi.

    Firstly:
That card is ancient, replace it while there are still a few rather cheap AGP cards available.

    Otherwise:
Did you try this? Replacing "nvidia" with "nv" because this card is most likely not supported in the new driver.

    Code:
    Section "Device"
        Identifier "Device0"
        Driver "nv"
        VendorName "NVIDIA Corporation"
That should be the old nvidia driver, if it is still there. Also try to find out what other generic drivers you might use.

    Alternatively

When the low-graphics mode error pops up you should have the option to change some settings, before loging in.
On that note, I think you get this error because your card is not supported by the "nvidia" driver.

Just play around and hope for the best.

    greetings
    /moddie
