Question Suggestions wanted: middle-range laptop with good Linux support

Sorry if the title comes over as spammy...

Hi, I'm looking for a decent laptop that has (close to) full hardware support with latest stable Ubuntu (Karmic). I tried looking on the net, but am washed away with the amount of information I get and haven't actually found anything matching my requirements yet.

    Requirements are:

    - The system should be dual-core (or better).
    - It should have a decent graphics chipset that's (going to be) well supported (I prefer NVidia/ATI over Intel, unless good reasoning is given why Intel would be the better chipset in your recommendation).
    - Budget is 500 euros at most (can be a little bit higher if you're giving good reasons).
    - Have a DVD writer (this is standard in pretty much any laptop, but rules out netbooks).

My goal is to find a laptop with decent specs that will last me for at least a few years, being able to run the occasional CPU or graphics intensive app when needed (games usually through Wine).

    Thanks in advance for helping!

Well, I saw that topic, but it obviously mentions desktop hardware compatibility list, making it more difficult to compare.

Looking a bit closer at the posts, though, there do seem to be laptop suggestions. Thanks, I guess.

Re: Suggestions wanted: middle-range laptop with good Linux support

Searching around a bit I found an Acer computer with the following specs:

    Code:
    Processor: Intel® Pentium® Dual-Core T4300 2x 2,10 GHz
    RAM: 4 GB DDR2
    Hard disk: 320 GB SATA
    DVD±ReWriter, dual layer
    Graphics card: Intel® GMA 4500M
I'm a bit skeptical about the chipset being GMA 4500M... The Ubuntu Intel video card compatibility list lists G45 as working, but I'm not sure if this includes the GMA 4500M and what kind of performance I can expect. (As a measure: should be able to play games like Yo Frankie or Sauerbraten fine on high settings).

Price weighs in around 400 euros.

So... What do you think? Yay or Nay?
