R52thinkpad-which ubuntu best?

Hi all,
Just picked up an R52 thinkpad and Im wishing to install ubuntu but not sure which flavour is the best way to go. Running 8.10 and Gnome at home currently.

The R52 is a 1.8ghz 1.5G ram 80G hd. DVD burner.
Just a general office laptop nothing super fast or heavy duty.

i am assuming, then, that you aren't completely happy with regular ubuntu?

if you provided more detail as to why, we would be better equipped to provide good suggestions.

what do you intend to use it for?

what is of greatest concern for you - eye candy, speed, etc etc?

give us more details about your needs, and we will do what we can to suggest something that fulfills those needs.

Sorry earthpigg my bad use of terms.
I am referring to "what release".
ie do I go straight for 9.10 or try a lesser one?
I had enormous troubles in the past with an apple laptop and certain versions not working.

9.10 should work fine on it.

or, keep 8.10 until 10.04 Long Term Support release comes out, and then don't worry about it again until April of 2013.

thanks guys. So far 9.10 has worked outa the box .

Just have to work out how to get the monitor output to switch..but thats another story
