    Take a look at Cowon players too. I like mine. it's very sturdy, good sounds, and has an SD slot. Doesnt require any software either.

    I have the Sansa M250. It would not work in either windows or Ubuntu until I went into setting and changed the USB to MSC whatever that means.

    If you're looking for a new mp3 player, check out rockbox.org. It's a firmware replacement for certain mp3 players,

    If you can find one on there hardware list, it's worth checking out.
    The sansas on the list are usually pretty good and rockbox will play any format you can throw at it.
