Mark, your mic should not be set to pulseaudio. It should be set to one of the HDA Intel settings. (...within Skype's configuration, that is...)

Ok.., but in Skype Options, PulseAudio seems to be the only thing I can choose. Can you tell me how to change that?

Hmmmm... the first thing I would try would be removing the version you downloaded from Skype's website and install the medibuntu version via...

    http://knowledge76.com/index.php/Ins...ricted_Formats

It is optimized for Ubuntu and hopefully will give you different options. If not, we'll figure that out.

My Skype is from Medibuntu and it gives me only that one PulseAudio option as well. However, I am able to make test calls successfully.

    Re: Lemur Ultrathin Laptop Issues

    Thanks Tom and marshmallow1304.

As I said in below link
    http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php...1&postcount=11
I couldn't install Skype using apt-get. I get this error message: "E: Package skype has no installation candidate" (detailed message in above link)
If installing this version fixes the problem I'd like to try.

I don't know, if what marshmallow1304 says is correct, is this mic setting with PulseAudio really causing the test call failure problem? I also remember when I was using my older laptop I think the mic was set to PulseAudio, and I could make calls (not always, it failed occasionally for some unknown reasons).
But now Skype test call never works. Not once.

Also, as I said in below link:
    http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php...33&postcount=5
Sound Recorder app works so I know the mic is not defective.

Anyway, I appreciate anyone's help on this one. I know there are many Skype for Linux users out there.

    Re: Lemur Ultrathin Laptop Issues

Well, this isn't the best solution or really even a solution but you might want to try this for a temporary workaround.

    Code:
    gksudo gedit /etc/pulse/client.conf
    Change
    ; autospawn = yes
    to
    autospawn = no
    Code:
    killall pulseaudio
Now you should be able to select the correct device in Skype.

    Doing
    Code:
    pulseaudio &
will bring pulse back without a restart.

I think that's because you are not running the whole tutorial. You've got to install the medibuntu repositories in order for the...

    sudo apt-get install skype

    ...to work.

    Yes. It is correct.

Hmm, I think I did run the whole thing.. I removed Skype from Synaptic again and tried the following.
Please see below and tell me what I'm missing..

Package skype is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source

    I appreciate your help.

    Re: Lemur Ultrathin Laptop Issues

    Well, Mark.

First of all, I owe you an apology. It *appears* they've removed Skype from the Medibuntu repos, and I had no idea. So, sorry for the wild goose chase.

That said, I ran into this exact problem yesterday on another computer, and here is what you need to do to get Skype going.

    1. Go to...
    http://www.skype.com/download/skype/linux/choose/
...and download/install Skype from there. Let me know if you need any help with install it, but you should basically just have to double-click the deb package and follow the prompts. You'll need the 8.10+ 64-bit version.

    2. Once it's installed, you will have to follow marshmallow1304's instructions above. That is, run...

    Code:
    gksudo gedit /etc/pulse/client.conf
    And change...
    Code:
    ; autospawn = yes
    ...to...
    Code:
    ; autospawn = no
    3. Go to System > Prefs > Startup Applications and create a new start-up app. Call it "Pulse Off" and make the command for it...

    killall pulseaudio

    4. Then reboot. Then start Skype.

    5. Now, in Skype's options, you should have several options for Input. You want the one that says something like...

    HDA(Intel) (hw0:0)

Then you should be able to make a test call.
To err is human, to forgive is very ... dog-like.

    Re: Lemur Ultrathin Laptop Issues

Tom, I'm glad you apologized for the situation, but..

    (1) Although I could choose "HDA Intel, ALC272 Analog (hw:0,0)" after doing what marshmallow1304 mentioned, test call still failed. I also tried all the other HDA Intel options. None worked. Tried unchecking the mixer level check box. Didn't work.

    Skype Setting after disabling pulse

    (2) As marshmallow1304 says, this really isn't a proper solution. For example, after killing pulse, normal stuff like volume control stops working. You know, even if Skype worked with this solution (it didn't), it's not the only application I use. I want other stuff to work too.

Please give me some real solution that (a) actually works and (b) doesn't break anything. Can't you test with Lemur by the way?

    Edit:
Below is the PulseAudio Volume Control screenshot (this is when Pulse is enabled (i.e. default)). You can see it's receiving sound.

PulseAudio Volume Control (pavucontrol) - Microphone 2 is receiving sound
