9.10 won't change resolution on Acer Aspire One

    Hey guys, first post!

I just wanted to say I've installed and un-installed Ubuntu so many times I lost count after 20. I have an Acer Aspire One with 2.00 GB of RAM and a 250 GB HDD. (Intel Atom, came with Vista)

I've been using Wubi, which I've used on past laptops. It used to work great but on this new netbook it just won't work. I've spent countless hours researching looking for solutions. I'm still kind of a noob... so please explain in simple words how to actually change it.

    Any help is appreciated!!!

(I'm just using the desktop version of Ubuntu 9.10, not netbook remix)

System->Preferences->Display to change resolution. Can you explain why you keep reinstalling and what happens when you try changing resolutions.

Well I know that how to change it but it won't let me... it doesn't even show a drop down box... I've tried
Kubuntu and Netbook Remix to see if they work, but it just plain won't. I've tried almost everything I've read online.... it all just ends up with the resolution going even lower or it shuts down.

Thanks for the info but I need more help...
