    [Karmic] Randomly lost my 1680x1050 resolution after switching NVidia to ATI

    A few weeks back my NVidia card committed suicide. I was using onboard graphics for a bit, but it was painful for Compiz. Upgraded to an ATI card about a week back and had no problems until my computer randomly freaked out in the middle of usage (literally was just watching a video when this happened) and kicked me from 1680x1050 to 1600x1200.
    Now I can't get 1680x1050 back on my choice of resolutions. I've modified xorg.conf about a billion times and am getting nowhere. From what I've read, it seems like Karmic doesn't use xorg as much and things are now "autodetected" http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=800354
    I can't seem to get this autodetect to work. Somebody please help. Let me know what more info I can provide and I'll gladly add it.

    Did you remove the nvidia driver? WHat ati card do you have and did you install proprietary drivers (i.e. catalyst/fglrx)?
    Please post /var/log/Xorg.0.log (use [ code ][ /code ] blocks)

    I've gone through many iterations of uninstalling and reinstalling both the NVidia and ATI drivers (both Catalyst and fglrx).

    My card is MSI R4350-MD512H Radeon HD 4350 512MB 64-bit GDDR2 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card.

    Did you look in the Catalyst Control Center (CCC) to see if that resolution is available?
    You should use CCC or aticonfig to control the driver and display when you are using fglrx.
