Could anyone point me where '

    http://s0.blackmage.co.uk/~nextvolume/via_arm/index.php

    has moved to?

Could well be that i've missed the announcement that it has moved, or that there is something 'nasty' between 'me' and the site, but i get 'no contact' with it from 'here'; My error message is:

An error occurred while loading http://s0.blackmage.co.uk/~nextvolum...arm/index.php:
Could not connect to host s0.blackmage.co.uk.

Re: Linux on 7" mini netbook ARM-VT8500 ?

blackmage.co.uk didn't appear very reliable so I moved the forums to another server back in May. Until some time ago when blackmage.co.uk had not changed their servers' operating system yet I had a working redirection to the new location:

    http://devio.us/~nextvolume/via_arm

tinyurl.com/easypc-forum should be not used anymore (I tried to make the tinyurl admin change the redirection, but he did not want to despite me giving him proof)

Go to the place on devio.us... www.bento-linux.org (or the #easypc IRC channel on FreeNode) is the stablest place you're going to get when you want a link to the forums (in case they move again, hehe).

    Thanks.
I can't provide any links, if they exist, but I can tell you that there is no way the distros for WM-8505 or VT-8500 will work on your processor. In fact, they'll probably brick your system if you attempt to use them, so be careful.

    hello.. just a quick question..

    when i mount /dev/mtdblock9 /mnt/mtd i get this:

yaffs: dev is 32505865 name is "mtdblock9"
    yaffs: passed flags ""
yaffs: Attempting MTD mount on 31.9, "mtdblock9"

    block 3478 is bad

and i can't procede with the extracting of the extpart.tgz

    Hello.

I was looking about the extra-cheap minilaptop/smartbook of $40 herehttp://cgi.ebay.com/7-Mini-Laptop-Ne...ht_6321wt_1137. That directed me to this post of the ubuntu forums. I'm i bit lost with these staff.

With that smartbook can i install anything apart of windows CE? The ARM processor matches with the requirments. Can i install Android or just bento/easypc linux distro? Can i install google chrome OS or Ubuntu netbook remix? Can i actualize android 1.5 to a newer version?

    Thank you in advance.

I have the same problem, I have to manually mount the SD card every time because it cannot find it. I also have gotten to a point where I can extract the contents of extpart.tgz however I get outputs of

    "tar: short read"
    "tar: invalid tar magic"
    "Segmentation fault"
and other times it actually reads but aborts before finishing the memory map.

I have yet to complete the install.... Any help is much appreciated!

ok, i registered just for this. i Have read every page and entry since page one, and thought to add this. I was having problems installing this linux, it would tell be the sd card could not be found. Couldnt find anything helping me. So i tried locking the sd card with the lock switch on the side, and that worked, let me install right away

Re: Linux on 7" mini netbook ARM-VT8500 ?

Ref previous post: a bit of a silly question...

Can you *write* to the sd-card now?

My reason for asking is the following: An SD-card 'connector' (the thing you stuff your SD-card into) has two switches. One is normally used to detect *if* the card is present, the other is normally used to detect the state of the write-protect switch.

I'm slowly getting the notion that -in the driver and/or hardware- these two switches might have gotten 'swapped'.

That would explain why -with write-protect- the card is detected, and with write-enable the card is not detected. Assuming that to be the case, I'm curious what the interpretation of the switch that is normally the card-detect (now write-protect) will be...
