Issues connecting to wired Internet in Karmic

    Hi there,

I recently upgraded to Ubuntu 9.10 and am having issues connecting to the Internet. I have previously used 8.04 - 9.04 successfully with my current connection.

I am trying to connect to my broadband cable connection and perform the following steps:

    1. Right click network manager icon in notification area.
    2. Click on the DSL tab.
    3. Enter user name and password for my connection.
    4. Set it to connect automatically and be available for all users.

I am not sure where I am going wrong or where to start troubleshooting. Any advice is much appreciated!

How does your modem connect to your computer?
Wired connections should work out the box.

My modem connects via a cat5 blue cable into the ethernet port. It used to work earlier, but for some strange reason it just won't connect now.

I was wondering - if i let it connect with the auto eth0 that comes default setup, how would I authenticate with my username and password. is that why it's not connecting?

It displays that it is connected, but when I check the connection information the information is not what it used to be when connected.

Well what happens if you just plug it in without any authentication and try and access the Internet?

It gives me the "connection established" popup in the corner as usual, but when I try to access the internet, nothing loads. Pinging anything gets no response.

    Hmm this is odd

Does the Internet work when you plug in other computers to the same connection?

Do you duel boot? If so does the other OS get Internet when you connect it?

(Just trying to rule out hardware)

    Yep yep:

I dual boot with windows, my windows can connect to the internet just fine. Same with other computers connecting with the same cables/connection.
