linux-image Error continues to occur every update

Yes, I have searched, and yes, I have reinstalled util-linux, done --configure -a, etc, etc. Every image update I get:
    Errors were encountered while processing:
    linux-image-2.6.31-15-generic
    linux-image-2.6.31-16-generic
    linux-image-generic
    linux-generic
    I cannot update past 2.6.31-14
