error copying files to second hard drive

hello, i have a server with a second hd for storage. i am able to access files on it but unable to copy files to the hd? i get an error message- unknown reason. its not permissions because i changed them to 777. has anyone else had this problem? worked ok a couple of weeks ago.

What is the error message? What filesystem is the other hard drive?

the error message is "unknown reason". when i do fdisk -l i get /dev/sdb doesnt contain a valid partition table. i think i formatted it with ext3.
