    Does It Work?

How do I search for whether a particular new laptop or computer works?
I'm not sure if reading lists and lists of model numbers is a good idea.
I'm thinking of buying a new laptop and installing Ubuntu over win7, because my first experience over a 5 year old compaq laptop was nice, even if broadcomm drivers had a problem which I solved.
So for NEW laptops in stores, is there ANY resource which can say OK yes, or not?
    Todd.
    Thanks

If in doubt, I would carry my favourite Live distro cd/dvd with me and - just before saying yes! - I would kindly ask the salesman to try it for me.
A single boot with no manual configuration would give a state of the art snapshot.
Just a quick look might give a nice feedback on screen resolution, WLAN, audio and webcam support.
A CD with an official Linux magazine label might help.

Definitely moving to GNU/Linux made me trust Computer Science again.

Great suggestion! Go with it and see what happens. What are they going to say, no! If they want to make a sale they will say yes, so go ahead and try it. Maybe it will convert the salesman to Linux.

    Cool Re: Does It Work?

If at first you don't succeed - just buy the company and tell them to make the one you want.
