Hypothetical Linux Game company questionnaire

As for how the company itself is doing... well... I'll just call it a work-in-progress for the time being. My real life responsibilities haven't allowed me to take such a grand step just yet.

Yesterday the survey reached it's first goal of 250 answers. As I promised earlier, the survey data has been made available for all interested to study. You may find it here. Hi.

I posted a thread some time ago in the Community-Cafe about starting a Linux game company.

I'm currently in the process of mapping the potential market and your input would be most valuable at this point.

Please take the time to answer my ten gaming related questions by using this questionnaire.

What a great idea. I can't speak for the others, but I'm more than happy to fork out a fair amount of cash for some better linux quality games. And /agree with Technophobia; keep us updated on your progress

Same. In fact I already do - I bought so many linux-native games while I only play one it's not even funny.

id pay 50$ or even 60$ if its a professionally made game. Can be closed source - doesnt matter to me.

While i know many people want different genre games (other than FPS) I have to say I would like a professionally done FPS game for linux. Something with a good multiplayer. Linux has a lot of FPS, but none of them are as professional as their windows counterparts.

Note: I am going to purchase Heroes of Newerth soon. Its 30$. But i can safely say i would pay 50$ for it also...

The input from this question will influence game design in cases where we must choose one or the other. This will also be used to judge how important it is that both approaches are present. Also obviously if the game makes use of a special controller (gamepad, joystick, wheel) those would trump both keyboard and a mouse in the design priority.

Currently I am documenting my progress in the original thread. I have never blogged before, and agree with Yahtzee that it (a blog) sounds like something that lives under the bridge and eats children. However I will consider it.

This is what made me post in the first place. I know the market is small, but there are a lot of people (myself included) who'd even pay extra just to get some good games on our favorite platform. Dual-booting just feels so dirty and for me is not even worth the hassle any more.

I guess I shouldn't fear publicity at this point, but right now all the headlines would say is "a broke nobody from a country with 5 million people wants to start a company that would produce hit games for Linux". I won't say to not spread the news, but let's all remember I'm still in a very early faze with this thing. The questionnaire is the first actual step in addition to talk I have taken to making this real.

I also welcome comments about the survey in this thread. Is an important question missing? Did a question lack the choice you would have made?
Come up with something better than "pretty colors" for what makes a game interesting? I invite everyone to brainstorm.
