Acer travelmate 4070 cant set right resolution

Recently acquired a laptop, immediately installed ubuntu 9.04 from CD, only had a resolution of 1024 x 768 and could change the frequency up to 85hz.

I upgraded to 9.10 pretty much immediately and know i have the same res option of 1024 x 768 but the frequency is stuck at 60hz.

The screen size is 15.4" and from what i can tell online i should be looking at a resolution of 1280 x 800. At the moment 1024 x 768 looks kinda blurry.

How can i set the correct resolution?
