My experience with ubuntu and bluetooth have been not always been very good. In Karmic it changed for the good, but still it is somewhat fuzzy. I would like to share the experience of connecting a bluetooth stereo headset.
Assuming your bluetooth dongle or internal bluetooth card works, pairing the headset is easy. Right click on the bluetooth icon in the taskbar and select "Set up new device..", set your headset in pairing mode and follow the on-screen instructions.
Now right click on the volume control in the taskbar and select "Sound Preferences". In the hardware tab you should be able to see your bluetooth headset. Select it and make sure the "High Fidelity Playback (A2DP)" profile is selected in the dropdown menu. In the "Output" tab you can now select your headset as the output device for pulsaudio.
So far so good. Now the fuzziness starts. Sometimes I can listen to music without any problem and sometimes it is choppy and stops altogether.
I found two approaches that helped me:
-switch off headset, disable bluetooth/remove dongle, enable bluetooth/insert dongle, switch on headset, right click on bluetooth icon in taskbar and connect to your headset.
-install blueman (sudo apt-get install blueman), startup blueman, left click on blueman icon in taskbar, right click on your connected headset, select "Disconnect Headset Service".
Unfortunately I do not know the cause of the problem, but I hope this helps others to enjoy their music via their stereo bluetooth headset.
