Rice fight on screen of VIA C7-M netbook. new install

    Hi all

I wonder if you can help me?
I have a 8.9" netbook running a VIA C7-M, cheap no name brand from China.
I went to install Netbook Remix on it but had to perform the installation via an external monitor, as the netbook monitor is just a sea of rice. (garbled mess). I can confirm that prior to this installation, the laptop had windows on it with no screen issues.

Can some brain out there shed any light on what I could possibly do to fix this issue please?

    Thank you

Unfortunately I have had to install windows xp back on this. I had hoped ubuntu would work but it didn't run correctly on this device out-of-the-box. I know that driver issues are present here so it's not ubuntu's fault.
