So look in synaptic in Ubuntu type in fractal and you will find several on board, the Mandelbrot sets are the most common since Mandelbrot is such a important figure in this.

Thanks for the info, but it looks like those programs are for generating 2-dimensional fractals. I was looking for the software that generates 3d fractals as described here, has this software not been officialy released yet?
I installed all three on board generators one gave a 3D view but it was just a thickened side view, but it could be rotated on a x-y axis none would do any thing like the 3D video. I had to overwrite my Linux setup it went south on me today so I don't have them installed as of now.
Mandelbulb3d is great for these.
