Stop 9.10 from sleeping when watching video

    Hi

Been using 9.10 for a few days now, it is really good. Has solved a few minor issues with the HP Pavillion system it was running on, like odd sound issues and not resuming after suspend.

My only issue is that I can't find a way to stop the power saver suspending the system after an hour (which it is set to do) when I'm watching DVD's on the machine using VLC.

I want to keep the power saver set to suspend after an hour of inactivity, as I don't like systems running when they don't need to be, but it seems to interpret playing a DVD as "inactivity" and there seems to be no command I can find in VLC to over ride the power saver options.

Totem was worse, at least VLC over rides the "turn screen off after 10 mins of inactivity" command. Totem didn't even inactive the screen saver.

Anyone know how to configure the system so it does not suspend after an hour whilst watching a video? Short of just changing the power saver options each time I watch a video?

    cheers

The only thing I can do is to recommend you Caffeine. A very good app.

For more info you could check this and also this blog post.

If you are running movie player there is an option under Edit -> Preferences. Click on the Display tab up top and select the to disable the screensaver. Not sure if that's what you're looking for but it's worth a try.
