    how to disable intel_agp in Koala

    I'm going nuts. This is with Koala. Krazy Koala.

    I want to disable intel_agp so that the nvidia AGP can load - something I believe I must do to get suspend working on my Dell Inspiron 5150.

    So,

    I have tried /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist. Oh ho ho. Now it is called blacklist.conf. Ok, I tried that. No luck.

    What do you need to do to get a module to not load in *koala*?

    I've done this successfully on all prior versions of Ubunut using the above.

    Help, help, help! (and thanks in advance)

    (btw, I'd be happy to remove the intel_agp module entirely, but can't figure that out either)

    unfortunately, suspend is still broken. ah well, off to try other things.

    Thanks for that.
    In case anyone else is having the same problem as me (Inspiron 5150 comes back from suspend with black screen), the solution was to blacklist intel_agp and add 'Option "NvAGP" "1"' to the 'Device' section of xorg.conf.
    Now to get the Fn keys working so I can suspend using the "suspend" key.

    thanks jeff. that's exactly where it's stuck. are you using the proprietary drivers?

    i vaguely remember doing all of this stuff on the last version. it took a fair bit of tweaking to get it working correctly on the inspiron 5150.

    on my last install i got suspend working by adding some acpi events. i'll have a look when i get home tonight and see if i can dig any details up.

    Yes, I'm using Nvidia's proprietary drivers. Those two steps are all I did and it works fine now. It's actually better than WinXP, which sets the fans to maximum after resuming from suspend.

    Any idea how to get the Fn+Esc suspend key to work? The Fn+PgUp and PgDn keys work for volume control, but I can't get any other ones to work. The lid closing switch thing doesn't work either.

    i'm not at home, but will try and remember to check on my home machine.

    yep, the setcpi suggestion enables the button, and lidclose. the trick then is adding the command as suggested in the link.

    i'm still not working. i did have NvAGP 1 set.

    do you mind posting your config files jeff? here's mine. i'm curious what's different. i have a stock machine, aside from a different wireless card. i'm tempted to take it out and see if that's the problem.

    anyway, here are my (not working) config files. i've run initramfs as suggested above in this thread.

    Hi moonstar, thanks for this hint. Adding intel_agp to blacklist.conf appears to have fixed my poor video playback on resume issue. I have it in blacklist also, but that alone did not help. I will post my configs once I use it for a while to confirm that it's fixed.
