    Interesting Release Schedule for Lucid

Ubuntu Lucid Lynx will have a strange (IMO) release schedule for this release.

    Summary:
    • Alpha 1
    • Alpha 2
    • Alpha 3
    • Beta 1
    • Beta 2
    • RC 1
    • Final Release

The reason given is because it is an LTS (though hardy did not have this release schedule).

Compared to Hardy it seems to be just two fewer 'pre-releases' but an entirely different naming scheme.

The user interface freeze happens on March 4th so we'll know by then if we've finally got a desktop that will make people go "Wow!".

I would bet on not having one.

Regardless, LTS releases are supposed to be rock-solid, not glitzy and pretty.

Why do you want to change the course of this thread? 'Nuff with the moaning!

Yes, I am looking forward to finding out how much difference this will make.
Remember, Lucid will be based not on Debian 'unstable' but on 'testing'. I can't complain about extra stability if we get moderately up-to-date packages.

I know they talked about doing this, but is it for sure what they will be doing for Lucid?

i know i heard a dude from Canonical say that this was the case a few hours ago while speaking (from talking points he did not prepare) at the local LUG.

i asked a question that was a dumb question (based on the scoff of the token loud guy in the audience that knows all.), but ill repeat it here in case others wonder the same...

"i dont know how the Debian cycle works, specifically how fast it works. With 10.04 being based on 'testing' and 9.10 on 'unstable', will i see packages in 10.04 that are older than those found in 9.04?"

    the answer was no.
