Hello I'm completely new to Ubuntu 9.10 but am an old hand with Windows.
My main prob is that I can't connect to the interweb.
I live in Hong Kong where they use a DSL system through routers that also give a signal to the TV. Windows displays an icon in the toolbar when the computer is connected to the router and says 'Local Area Network Connected', then there is a separate connection for the internet which uses a 'Dial Up' type dialogue and can be configured to connect manually or automatically. The system requires BOTH to be connected at the same time, I have not been able to achieve this with Karmic Koala yet. It appears that Ubuntu is not capable of this type of dual connection unless I am overlooking something.
I am booting from CD because I only have 1 computer and I want to make sure that it works before I go for a clean install, I would not mind trying a 'Dual Boot' from 'C' drive if that is better but haven't looked into it yet. This computer is a Sony VAIO laptop.
I checked a thread on this forum and downloaded some Netowrk Manager files from this forum thread - http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.p...nection&page=5 - posted by 600WPMPO on the last page, it appears that they must be installed so I don't think it would work when I'm booting from CD.
Any suggestions ?
