I've been searching in vain for an answer to this, and keep falling on old instructions to install qc-usb drivers, but as, according to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SkypeWebCams
"The webcam works automatically in 9.10 (the 2.6.30+ kernels) with the gspca_stv06xx driver"
I believe this webcam should work 'out of the box' as I have recently upgraded to Karmic.
However, when I plug it in, lsusb gives:
Code:
Bus 002 Device 011: ID 046d:08f6 Logitech, Inc. QuickCam Messenger Plus
Which seems to be a good start. When I check dmesg, I get
Code:
[ 7134.520442] usb 2-1.6: new full speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 11
[ 7134.615783] usb 2-1.6: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice

Which I believe to also be a good sign. However, when I try and launch cheese, I get the following:
Code:
mike@mike-laptop:~$ cheese -v
Cheese 2.28.1

When I try and test the webcam using gstreamer-properties, I get the following:
Code:
libv4l2: error turning on stream: Input/output error
gstreamer-properties-Message: Error running pipeline 'Video for Linux 2 (v4l2)': Error starting streaming on device '/dev/video0'. [gstv4l2object.c(1886): gst_v4l2_object_start_streaming (): /GstPipeline:pipeline0/GstV4l2Src:v4l2src3:
system error: Input/output error]
What can I do to get this working?
