gnome help ("yelp") slower than molasses uphill in iceland

Whenever I hit F1 for help in Gnome after logging in, it takes a long time (over 30 seconds) where the hard drive grinds away. I'm using Karmic, but I think it was this way before anyways. Why is it so slow? It's not just annoying, its embarrassing to show a potential new user of Ubuntu this.

Or is it just my install? Does this happen to you?

I just found out that yelp is the cause of my latest Karmic headache too so you are not alone.

I am using Xubuntu and when I open help for an application up pops the gnome help window and then it hangs...but after reading your post I realise it must be working away so slowly it gives the impression it has locked up. Each time I'd have to shut down by pressing my laptop's power button cos nothing else worked.

I had to delete the gnome-help file (/usr/share/) to stop it doing it.
