Maverick get the thumbs down from me. So many annoyances that compound ruin it for me.

It's not the EQ. Open Terminal:

    Code:
    alsamixer
Try adjusting the master and speaker levels there.

Speaking of strange things. I installed
    Code:
    linux-backports-modules-alsa-2.6.31-22-generic
before installing the equaliser package. Now the volume control for Ubuntu is at 74, while the master in alsamixer is at 84. Adjusting the speaker level in alsamixer causes the difference to increase. This didn't happen before.

The only settings I've modified in alsa-config was adding:
    Code:
    options snd_hda_intel model=hp-dv5
    at the end.

    Why are they different values?

Yep. . . speaker was set to zero.

*sigh* I hate it when it's something simple like that. Been using Ubuntu since Warty, you'd think I'd learn a thing or two. . .

    Thanks!

pretty sweet, also found a PPA for maverick.

here are my problems with the equalizer:
    - no integration into audio preferences
    - no integration into maverick sound applet
    - bad audio (noise, etc)
    - crackling on changing volume
    - select-apply/activate EQ is really loud!
    - no integration into rythmbox etc
    - not very neat interface

Bottom line: nice start, would be great to see this developed further!

    1. Please clarify
    2. That wouldn't make any sense
    3. I agree
    4. What do you mean by that?
    5. Again that makes no sense.
    6. It's an EQ. You don't need anything else.

This EQ is a LADSPA plugin. It gets used by the Linux ALSA. Letting applications control it would be incredibly difficult, mostly because ALSA is slightly silly. This is called a global eq, meaning it affects the sound output directly. Not the sound from various applications going to the output.

That is the original PulseAudio Equalizer in my PPA mentioned above. I've just fixed the icon which caused it not to install on Maverick...

    Re: PulseAudio Equalizer Script

I just wanted to share something that took me a few days to finally figure out after upgrading from 10.04 to 10.10. Maverick 10.10 users be aware, if you are making recordings from your soundcard's analog line-in or mic inputs and hear intermittent popping, static, or crackling sounds in the recordings the problem is coming from this playback equalizer.

It's not the script creator's fault, it's just that the 10.10 version of pulseaudio with LADSPA have some defect(s) that is the real problem. Anyway, it was basically the last thing I troubleshot because I didn't think playback effects could affect recordings, but I guess in the world of pulseaudio normal logic doesn't apply. This was never a problem with prior releases of ubuntu.
