Is there a command that I can have linux run when it boots to that sets the master volume?

Similar to tgeer and duffydack's problem, I've noticed when the equalizer is enabled and I switch radio stations in Rhythmbox the volume on Rhythmbox will max out with each station change. This doesn't happen with Guayadeque and doesn't happen when I play something from my library. I keep my system volume always at 100%, so I don't know if it would max out with enabling the equalizer.
You could also install it from the webupd8 ppa, they have a fixed package for maverick
Code:sudo add-apt-repository ppa:nilarimogard/webupd8 sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install pulseaudio-equalizer

Yeah, what I have to do as a precautionary measure is make certain that all currently running apps that emit sound are either turned way down or beter yet, muted. Then I can enable the equalizer and reset my volume levels.
I wouldn't mind it all at but this method doesn't allow you to hear the difference in frequency response back to back in order to make a decent comparison. Since the individual sliders to not respond in real time the problem is even more acute.
Ah well, it'll probably get corrected eventually but in the meantime I'm just glad to have a system wide equalizer/preamp.

I just moved over to Maverick, and the equalizer window isn't coming up when I click on the icon in the menu. It just says it's starting it, and then after a bit it dies. The UI is gone apparently. How can I get it back?
Sorry, not just that. All my audio is dead now. Thanks for the link though.
Ah, I can't get to alsaconfig either...something is fishy here. In fact I can't find any entries in the man pages about alsa. However the equalizer is working now. However sound processed by it is somewhat quiet.
EDIT: nevermind. Seems to be working. Just need to turn up the preamp a bit.
