So I removed ubuntu one, couch desktop and couch db without any boot problems. As far as the boot time is considered, it might be faster but not very significantly. (using ubuntu 9.10 64bit btw)

I will agree with the "seems faster," but only negligibly. Shame; I wish I understood the upstart boot process more because I'm convinced that's where a lot of this is. I know it's a "work in progress."

usplash can be removed without a problem,it will just show your bootup info instead of ubuntu logo
