Question Disable voice and video in Pidgin

This may sound stupid, as people have been begging for this feature for years, but here we go: how do I disable voice and video in Pidgin (2.6.3) settings? I just want text chat, and I want people to know it.

If it is not implemented in Pidgin, perhaps I could do it using the XMPP console plugin, but I have no idea what commands to type in such console. Any ideas?

I have already tried disabling my webcam module in the kernel, but Gmail users still see me as a vv user ( icon)

    Thanks.

I second this... just had a friend chat me and ask why I have a video icon. It'd be a neat feature if I actually had a webcam.

Not fun getting random Pidgin crashes just because someone thinks I have video.

Re: Disable voice and video in Pidgin

Agreed. I would love to have voice and video in Pidgin... only if the damn thing actually worked. It always crashes pidgin if someone tries to call me (CPU usage is ~150%, Pidgin is unresponsive). So, in the short term, I'd rather turn it off... but I cant!

    Any solution would be appreciated.

My solution was to recompile pidgin with the --disable-vv flag. Not very friendly.

Re: Disable voice and video in Pidgin

I have exactly the same problem, when a Gmail user calls me, webcam starts, pidgin crashes and CPU usage is huge, I don't have even the opportunity to reject the incoming call.
I have disabled the audio/video settings plugin but it does not seem to solve the problem...
help... i want to know at least if this automatically accepted and unauthorized video call that makes webcam starts shows the Gmail user any video...

    thank you

    Same here.

Some of my friends again and again try call, my pidgin hangs, so i have always need to kill it, and search history for missed chat messages.
