Getting Ubuntu to reconnect after ISP changes IP address

My problem is as follows. My ISP kicks me off every so often from the 'net to change my IP address. When this happens, instead of Ubuntu automatically reconnecting me within 5-10 minutes, my connection is lost until I manually click the network icon and chose my connection type (DSL). I'm not behind a router, so it doesn't do this automatically for me. Is there some way I can rig Ubuntu to try to reconnect me every 5 or 10 minutes instead of waiting? It becomes quite annoying since I have about 40 outgoing processes that keep trying to connect which makes my computer go wild and freeze up.

    To recap:

    DSL connection
    No router
    Wired connection
