Unfortunately, I can't help much with that. The sound worked "out-of-the-box" with Karmic on my PanP5 -- actually, it was better than in Jaunty -- so I haven't fiddled with the sound stuff. I'm sure when Tom gets to work on Monday, he'll be able to better help you in you other thread. I'm sorry I couldn't be more helpful to you.

EDIT: Check out this thread: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1306773 You might find some help in there.

Thanks all--worked like a champ. Just for future reference here's what I did:

    1. Backed up all my files (duh, but thought I better list it as a step)
    2. Installed Ubuntu 9.10 and formatted drive (hence step 1!)
    3. Ran normal Ubuntu updates (which there were some) and rebooted
    4. Installed proprietary Nvidia drivers (System -> Administration -> Hardware Drivers) and rebooted
    5. Installed System76 drivers and rebooted
    6. Ran System76 drivers, did system restore. Rebooted.

I'm pretty sure that this particular reboot wasn't necessary, but it certainly didn't hurt anything. Congrats on a flawless reinstall!

Sorry, that should have been "applied System76 system restore and rebooted," which it indicated I needed to do after it finished the restore (if I remember correctly). This solid state drive with ext4 is amazingly fast!

Full Disclosure: I'm an "old school" Linux guy. When I first started using Linux in the late 90's, rebooting was considered a sign of weakness. Old habits are hard to break for me.

Good point! I did not do this and thought I had lost all my contact info! I had/have a complete rsync of the /home partition though, and was able to get it all back. I would recommend doing the back up as you say, but if someone forgets, or that backup gets hosed, here's what I had to do:

    After installation, first shutdown evolution:

    Code:
    sudo evolution --force-shutdown
Then, remove a couple of directories in your user directory.

    Code:
    rm -R ~/.evolution
    Code:
    rm -R ~/.gconf/apps/evolution
Bring in the saved directories from your rsync'd backup.

    Code:
    rsync -avv <path to backupdisk>/home/<user>/.evolution/ /home/<user>/.evolution
    Code:
    rsync -avv <path to backupdisk>/home/<user>/.gconf/apps/evolution/ /home/<user>/.gconf/apps/evolution
After a reboot, evolution will be restored - and yes, you must reboot, or at least logout (though I did not try a logout) for evolution to "see" the new directories

This worked for me, YMMV though, I do not guarantee this will work for you!

Re: Upgrade Instructions for Ubuntu 9.10

Upgraded, not clean install, with no problems. I'm always confused by questions asking to replace or keep customized config files so I always keep them.

I waited 'till after the upgrade to add the new sys76 driver, but I suggest adding the driver first. After the upgrade the system said driver was not compatible. I added the driver from synaptic, with no trouble so it's just a minor issue.

Nice that the annoying beep at shutdown is gone.
