    w00t!

posted on their forums, I've tried the *demo* at work on a winblows machine, looks like a great game!

Hopefully the port isn't a wine port...

Re: Torchlight for Linux ? Make your voices heard !

I just went over their FAQ and noticed this:

    Code:
Q: How do I get a physical CD or boxed version?

A: Torchlight will be in stores on January 5th, 2010. Pre-orders will start on Encore USA’s site and Amazon.com in mid-December. The boxed version will not have any DRM.
Will this make it work under wine?

Probably, but it's hard to say for sure until someone tries it.

I wouldn't buy the Windows version though unless there definitely isn't going to be a Linux version. Right now it looks reasonably likely that there will be a Linux version, and the more people buying the Linux version rather than Windows, the better. The only way we'll get more commercial games for Linux is by buying existing ones and showing developers there is a market in Linux games.

no actually... it's by not buying games unless it is for linux.

if I'd be hired to make a game and would be asked by the marketing devision what the best thing to do with the linux and mac crowd is... then I'd tell them to put the money they'd put in making the ports into advertising campaign and avoid mentioning linux at all. That way the people who dual boot or will be ok with using wine will buy it + more people will buy the game because of advertisements.

The moment linux people would stop buying windows only games and specially the mac people, then I'd think again where to put the money.

That depends on your hardware and wine configuration. I tried a DRM free version in Wine (I already bought the game for Windows), but I got major graphical glitches that made the game unplayable. But other people have reported almost 100% accuracy. So it depends.

That's what I meant/said. By "existing" I meant currently existing for Linux.

I won't buy this if it doesn't have a native Linux port. I was saying that if people do want it and would buy it for Windows, they should hold off and buy the Linux version, and only buy the Windows version if there isn't going to be a Linux one.

Personally, I'll only buy Linux native games.
