If you just raise a case saying that XYZ doesn't work, it's just another way to sing to the choir about your rant, as there is no way to understand is going wrong, or why, let alone any way for developers to reproduce the issue.
It may be fine saying "if it happens to me, other people must have the same issue". But that is not always the case. Alot of the bugs can be very hardware specific, hence the need for hardware spec, physical memory dumps and other bits and pieces.
That is your friend, and is the bare required info needed for bug reporting in Ubuntu.

Nah, really, my favourite thing is the new disk utility and devicekit-disks stuff (even though it's been in Fedora since version 11). It just keeps coming in handy for me, and its disk error checking is fantastic. I just wish flash drives didn't end up with 3 context menu options related to ejecting them.
