    Which kernel source
Which (if any) menuconfig options you changed
    Which OS you compiled in

Also, did you turn off the kernel-hacking options in menuconfig ? I did, but I'm beginning to wonder if that's the problem.

    Cheers
    I have 2.6.32.10 from:

    http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v2.6/

compiled and running in both 64Bit Karmic and 64bit Beta1 of Lucid Lynx. I haven't been able to get any of the 2.6.33 variants running properly.

I pretty much followed Ivan's instructions except for adding this:

    chown -R root:root linux-2.6.32.10

    right after:

    ln -s linux-2.6.32.10 linux

based on what I read on another web site.

The only option I changed in menuconfig is to turn off most of the kernel-hacking stuff. In a couple of places these was no response to my pressing "n", so I left those.

I didn't try to get rid of any hardware drivers, or change any options except the kernel-hacking stuff.

    Hope this helps,
    Colin

Re: Toshiba L505D ACPI issue with 9.1/9.04

Since I have been using the "Comment 75" patch from here:

    https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14679

when I compile a kernel for my L505D-S5983 I have been going into my grub.cfg file, and I have noticed that the menuentrys for the kernels I compile under Lucid Lync, Beta1, don't have an initrd line. The other menuentrys, including the one I compile under Karmic do have that line.

Not having the line doesn't prevent the kernels from booting, so I am wondering why this is happening and what the significance is.

    This:

    Comment #80 From Len Brown 2010-04-06 01:22:44 -------

    FYI,
I will apply the patch from comment #75 to linux when it comes
via next ACPICA update, which should be within the next week or so.

Unhappy Re: Toshiba L505D ACPI issue with 9.1/9.04

ubuntu with 10.4 on toshiba L505D-S5992
I cannot load on this laptop with win 7, that I want to get rid off.
I cannot access the HDD because of the viruses. So what how can i proceed to burn a disk with the hacks that you are suggesting here in this forum?
    Thanks

So I wonder how long it'll take that patch to hit ubuntu?

The easiest is when you load the disc and you come on the first screen, you can uncheck options like "acpi" en "noapic". If that works, you should be able to start the computer (with some bugs like not being able to suspend or not having sound). If that doesn't work, the patches described here won't work eather and there is another problem.

Re: Toshiba L505D ACPI issue with 9.1/9.04

Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong, but....

That patch still hasn't made it into the kernel yet, has it? (unless I'm missing it, 2.6.33.3 doesn't have it)

Gaaaaahh... That's getting really annoying... I'm planning on getting a new laptop whenever AMD releases their Fusion CPU early next year, I'm starting to believe this laptop still won't have proper non-hacked Linux support by the time that happens.

Quick comment regarding this patch discussed in this forum... Any body having any trouble installing it to the lynx kernel mentioned on pg 8. I have tried to install lynx with that kernel and patch and it gives me kernel panic unable to mount vfs drive or something similar. Anyone know a fix for that?

I just installed Lucid Final, can I download the Ubuntu Kernel and apply that patch to it? Will it work?

    Thank you for your answer.
