Trouble installing Ubuntu on an old Fujitsu laptop

I found an old Fujitsu laptop (specs attached) and thought it would be a good idea to install Ubuntu 9.04 and use it as a large MP3-player.

My problems started half way into the installation (?) when the screen went black. I'm guessing a problem with the graphics driver but I haven't found any threads on how to deal with this problem. When pressing ctrl-F1 I got to a command prompt but I wasn't sure what do with it.

Can somebody please help me through this??!!
