Gigabyte GeForce 7200 graphics for Intrepid Ibis

Hi

I am new to Ubuntu and have just installed Intrepid Ibis.
I'm very impressed by what I've seen so far.

I am looking for drivers for my Gigabyte GeForce 7200 graphics card and installation instructions.

I cannot use the Synaptic updater as I haven't yet figured out how to connect Ubuntu to the internet using my Nokia N71 via bluetooth.

I will have to download using Windows and manually install into Ubuntu.

Hope someone can help, as I want to start showing Ubuntu to my friends with visual effects enabled

It is relatively hard to achieve what you want. Even if you download the driver package for your card, it will need dependencies, which in turn may need more dependencies. Once you have internet connection, things become much simpler. System->Admin->Hardware Drivers. I am sure your vanity and friends can wait.

Anyway, I brought the box in to work and did the Synapse thing over DSL

And I have to say I'm completely blown away with the results after enabling visual effects

WinXP looks and feels clunky in comparison

The 7200 should be similar to my 7300LE, which uses the 177.82 driver

Installing Ubuntu using a cellular network for Internet access could be very expensive, there have already been many MB of updates to the original 8.10 release

Thanks for the reply, got the display working now.

As for connecting via cellphone, I don't have a choice as I live on a smallholding just outside the range of a DSL service, and I can't bring myself to go back to dialup - I just don't have that sort of patience.

So all I have to do now is figure out how to connect via bluetooth using my Nokia N71 as a modem.

3G costs in South Africa are relatively cheap, more or less on a par with DSL depending on the amount of bandwidth one buys upfront.

I have not seen the NVIDIA driver (downloaded to desktop) listewd in Hardware drivers. I have Hardy Heron and the same graphics card, GeForce 7200 GS...

I am a bit stuck! Please tell me the steps you used to get the card working
