    laptop compatability with upgrades

Is it safe to assume that the latest Ubuntu release will work with hardware at least as well as an earlier version tested on that hardware?

For example, the Packard Bell EasyNote BU45 tested well on Hardy.
    See:

    Should I
    (1) install the latest Ubuntu release on a similar Packard Bell laptop?
    - or -
    (2) install Hardy, the version that tested well on the above Packard Bell.

    Thanks!

Try the live CD of both, if there is a chance, or wait a few days for 9.10. Jaunty, 9.04 is the best yet for me, but others have different opinions, I know, and it can be dependent on exact hardware
