    when to upgrade ram

i usually monitor my ram usage with a widget, and i notice it stays kind of high... generally around 50%-60% by programs and the rest cache...

i currently have 1gig of ram (2x 512) if my system is only using 50-60% of it would it be any benefit to go to 2gig?

Wouldn't hurt to go to 2G. You will notice the difference and modules are pretty cheap.

If your only using 50-50% of your RAM at peak use, getting moreis not going to help much, if at all. Its not going to hurt either.

BTW, if your getting new RAM, depending on what RAM you have now, you might be able to upgrade your RAM speed (e.g. go from 667Mhz to 800Mhz) and CAS/RAS ratings (complicated to explain). That would give you a bit of a speed increase.
