    Open Arabic files with gedit

    i mean windows encoded Arabic files

    1- Open the gedit

    Application >> Accessories >> Text Editor

    2- Click file >> open

    3- From the open menu click in the menu of Character Coding.



    4- Select Add or Remove.

    5- From the available encodings select Windows-1256 & click add.



    6- you are done.

    enjoy windows Arabic encoding

    Thanks a lot, worked for me
    the best part is after you open it click save and the next time you open it, it will display the arabic letters correclty

    the following was useful to me
    {
    right click on file>Properties>Open With>Add button
    then
    >use a custom command
    and write

    gedit --encoding=WINDOWS-1256

    then click add

    try open file again
    }
