VIA VT1708B - Crappy Sound - Ubuntu jaunty.

Can anybody tell me how to fix my sound in ubuntu 9.04? I have a VIA VT1708B. I upgraded the alsa drivers to the latest ones (1.0.21) and it didn't make a scrap of difference. I've got sound on the rear output but it's really crappy and distorted, and the front phone jack (on the case) doesn't work. I can't find any more info on how to fix this. Any suggestions?

    Thanks in advance,

    jim.

Edit: Problem solved sort of...The PCM stereo link doesn't work. Breaking the link and turning either L or R right down seems to work.

Did you upgrade your Ubuntu to 9.10? Did it make any difference? I also have this soundcard and I'm using 9.04 experiencing the same problem...

What happens with this sound card. Does it work fine yet?
I think to buy the same one.
Does it have support in Ubuntu 9.10???

Not resolved in 9.10, I'm having the same issues.
